Angus94's Tutorial for Painting

Text/Logos onto Windows in rFactor

this method can be used for almost all the rfactor mods,  i've found that by using this method, decals don't have a transparent "look" to them, this method makes them look nice and solid and bright in appearance.

Step-1.

here we have our text all ready to work on, yellow numbers and white name. these are all merged onto 1 layer.

Step-2. here you can see the ARROW is pointing to our merged layer, whilst the back copy is turned OFF.
make sure your MERGED layer is highlighted/selected

Step-3. click the 'magic wand' button as shown by the Arrow

Step-4. now click anywhere inside the image.
you should have the letters, numbers and around the outside of the image what appears to be 'marching ants',
you will notice 2 areas DO NOT have these 'marching ants', both areas are inside the Capital D letters.

Step-5. Hold down the [SHIFT] key and click 'inside' the D's one after the other. now everything we want is selected.

Step-6. next, right-click in the area near the ARROW, menu box should appear, click "Select Inverse".

Step-7. now you should have NO 'marching ants' around the outside of your image,
only around your text as 'A' shows, now click [EDIT] menu then click Copy, as 'B' indicates.

Step-8. now, go to your layers pallette applet and click the 'Channels' tab at the top, see the Arrow.

Step-9. now click the Alpha1 layer, so it is high-lighted/selected. all the 4 other layers should be turned OFF.

Step-10. the image above shows what you should have on screen at the moment, 'marching ants' around invisible text.

Step-11. now click the 'Eye Dropper' in the Tools pallette.

Step-12. now click the white colour in the 'Swatch' pallette.

Step-13. now click the 'Paintbrush' back in the Tools pallette.

Step-14. now start to move your paintbrush on your text, you can be quite vigorous doing this as the colour will ONLY be applied inside the text/logo area.  when your done, hold the CTRL key and press 'D' this will clear the 'marching ants'.

Step-15. if you click the RGB layer above this should turn the Alpha1 layer OFF, then follow 'A' to
get back to your working screen. now just save your windows as DXT5 for the mod, or .tga first if you get the "too many channels" error.

Step-16. here's our completed windows in the mod, cheers. hope yours turned out just as good. (Substituted Image)
